Lambasingi

Overview

Lambasingi, a small village in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, has been nicknamed the "Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh" for a specific and genuinely unusual reason — on the coldest December–January mornings, temperatures drop close to freezing and frost forms on the grass, an anomaly for coastal Andhra. It's a spice-and-coffee growing village rather than a built-up hill station — no real infrastructure beyond a viewpoint, homestays, and small eateries — which is exactly the draw for visitors tired of Araku's larger crowds. The frost window is short and weather- dependent, so treat it as a possibility to chase rather than a guarantee on any given date.

Best time to visit

Late December through mid-January is the narrow window for the frost and near-freezing mornings that give Lambasingi its reputation — arrive before sunrise if that's the goal. October through February more broadly is cool and pleasant even without frost. Outside winter, Lambasingi is a pleasant but unremarkable spice-growing village, not worth a dedicated trip.

Things to do

• Watch sunrise from the valley viewpoint, when frost is most likely to be visible on the grass in peak winter.
• Walk through coffee and spice plantations around the village, best with a homestay host as guide.
• Drive the Lambasingi–Araku road, a scenic ghat stretch worth combining with an Araku Valley trip rather than visiting alone.
• Visit nearby Thajangi Reservoir, a quieter, lesser-known stop a short drive away.

Frost-Chasing Weekend (2 Days)

1. Day 1 — Arrive by afternoon, plantation walk, overnight at a local homestay for an early start.
2. Day 2 — Pre-dawn to the viewpoint for sunrise and possible frost, plantation breakfast, drive out via Thajangi Reservoir.

Combined with Araku (3 Days)

1. Day 1 — Arrive in Araku Valley, coffee plantation and tribal museum.
2. Day 2 — Drive the ghat road to Lambasingi, sunset at the viewpoint, overnight homestay.
3. Day 3 — Sunrise at the viewpoint, plantation walk, drive back.
