Maredumilli

Overview

Maredumilli, in East Godavari/Alluri Sitharama Raju district, is a dense-forest hill area built almost entirely around AP Forest Department eco-tourism — waterfalls, bamboo bridges, and forest rest- house camping rather than a conventional hill-station town. Most attractions here (Jalatarangini, Amruthadhara, the bamboo bridges, the tribal honey-processing unit) sit inside forest land managed through the department's eco-tourism programme, and camping or forest-stay bookings generally need to go through their counters rather than private operators — plan ahead if an overnight forest stay is part of the trip.

Best time to visit

October through February is the easiest season — clear trails and comfortable trekking weather. Monsoon (June–September) brings the waterfalls to full flow and the forest to its most dramatic, but several trails and the bamboo bridges can close temporarily after heavy rain — check with the forest eco-tourism counter before setting out.

Things to do

• Trek to Jalatarangini Falls, a multi-tiered waterfall reached through forest trail.
• Visit Amruthadhara Falls, a shorter, easier walk from the road.
• Cross the bamboo bridges, hand-built structures over forest streams that are as much a photo stop as a crossing.
• Visit the tribal honey-processing unit, a small community enterprise worth a short stop for context on the region's forest- based livelihoods.
• Camp at a forest department rest house, booked through the eco-tourism counter, for a night in the reserve rather than a day trip.
